Prayer of Examen

This week, join us in the morning by praying the Lord’s Prayer to start the day. How can you partner with the Lord to bring His Kingdom to earth?

Then, in the evening, reflect on the day with a six step examen prayer. Where did you see God show up? how did you see His Kingdom on earth?

The Lord’s Prayer

Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
And forgive us our debts,
as we also have forgiven our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from the evil one.

A Six Step Daily Examen

1. Become Aware of God’s Presence: Start by taking a moment to be still and recognize that God is with you.

2. Review the Day with Gratitude: Look back on your day and thank God for specific gifts, joys, and moments of grace.

3. Pay Attention to Emotions: Reflect on your feelings throughout the day: the joys, frustrations, and confusion; to understand where God was present.

4. Choose One Feature of the Day and Pray from It: Focus on one specific moment, positive or negative, that stood out and speak with God about it.

5. Contemplate the Following two Questions:

Where specifically was I obedient to the teaching and way of Jesus today?

Where did I participate with God in bringing His Kingdom into my life, my home, my neighborhood and my city?

6. Look Toward Tomorrow: Ask God for guidance and grace to handle upcoming challenges and opportunities, asking for help to align with His will and bringing forth His Kingdom.
